NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. ( Sept. 12, 2023) – A juggernaut attack by the Florida National University’s women’s volleyball team earned them a 3-0 win over the Trinity College of Florida Tigers (0-4) Tuesday night. FNU (1-3) lost its first three matches of the year versus steep in-state competition including, Webber International University, Florida Memorial University and NCAA DII Edward Waters University.
The Conquistadors won the opening game 25-9, followed by a 25-13 victory in the second set, and iced out the home team winning the third frame 25-19. Notably, FNU had a total of seven service aces and 37 kills. Layla Cortez was electric, slamming down a team-high 12 kills. Leila Alves was not far behind, recording eight kills and two digs.
The USCAA’s latest Specialist of the Week Award winner, Ivette Sandoval, continued to set up her teammates perfectly and nabbed a team-high 12 assists before the night ended. FNU had 10 blocks in the match, including four from Sofia Moreno Bendala.
