LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 24, 2022) – In one of the first major Fall tournaments on deck for Florida National, the Conquistadors put on a show under the light of Lakeland, Florida. The YTF tournament held at Southeastern University ran from October 21-23. The Conquistadors participated in six singles draws and pulled away with three wins from Jan Oppermann, Umberto Particelli and Paulina Jankun.
Particelli, the Cremona, Italy, native defeated Saint Leo University’s Loup Sudre on Friday 6-3,6-3 before taking down Nicolas Fertonani of Warner University 6-3, 6-4, [10-8] for a spot in the final of the red draw. Another SLU player fell at the hands of Particelli in the final 6-3, 7-5.
Oppermann did some serious damage in the white draw defeating Ave Maria’s Graham Gibbs 6-4, 6-2 and Julien Mourad 6-1, 6-2. Another AMU player fell to Oppermann in the final as Adriel Bousquet lost 7-6,1-6.
Jankun made light work of the competition in the women’s singles white draw defeating Warner’s Riley Cook and Ave Maria’s Elizabeth Pince 6-0, 6-1, and 6-2, 6-0, respectively. An all-FNU final highlighted the draw’s final match as Jankun defeated fellow teammate Karyna Krykunenko 6-3, 6-2.
Doubles play for the Conquistadors showed early signs of growth, notably partners Sebastian Fujita and Ignacio Munoz took down AMU’s Alexander Nunez and Julien Mourad, 8-3. The FNU dynamic duo also handed teammates Jerry Makela and Jan Oppermann a 9-7 loss. On the women’s side, partners Nadia Abad and Vanessa Simeone picked up an 8-2 win over Southeastern’s Nadezda Bijelic and Isabella Forcella.
