MIAMI, Fla. (November 23, 2020) – Senior Kenneth Santos recorded his first double-double of the 2020-21 season with a 27-point, 11-rebound performance versus the No.9-ranked Arizona Christian Firestorm (5-0) on Monday.
For the second-straight day, a slow start by the Conquistadors (2-5) doomed FNU, dropping the contest, 111-91. The Firestorm used a 20-0 run to start the game – a deficit the Conquistadors could not overcome.
Santos notched his fourth 20-point outing of the year, scoring 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor (5-of-11 from 3-point range). The native of San German, Puerto Rico, also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds while dishing out three assists and tallying six steals.
Junior Jeffrey Hernandez added 13 points (5-of-9 shooting) while junior Josh Tawhiao posted 11 (4-of-5 shooting) and senior Jose Benitez contributed 11 (3-of-12 shooting). Benitez also notched three assists and two steals. Leading the team in assists was sophomore Hirotaka Ohashi with seven.
FNU ended the contest shooting 37.5 percent from the field (12-of-42) and was 18-of-38 from downtown (47.4 percent). ACU made 49-of-79 attempts from the floor (50.6 percent) and converted 44.4 percent of its shots from beyond the arc (13-of-28).
The Firestorm outrebounded the Conquistadors, 58-37, and held a 16-10 advantage on the offensive boards.
FNU will hit the road to take on the Georgia Southern Eagles on Wednesday, November 25. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
