“Day of Service” to Help Nonprofit Improve Housing Development in Pompano
Our Athletic Program isn’t just about winning games; it’s about teaching the idea of giving back. Participating in community service projects gives everyone a sense of purpose and teamwork similar to the camaraderie on an athletic team.
Pompano, FL (PRWEB) October 04, 2013
On Saturday, October 5th, 2013 from 9:00am to 4:00pm, Volunteers of America of Florida and the first ever Florida National University (FNU) Men’s Basketball team join forces to better local communities. This “Day of Service” will consist of the FNU Men’s basketball team coming to the Volunteers of America of Florida’s Pompano housing development (1011 NW 6th Ave, Pompano, FL) to paint the exterior of the building. There will be opening remarks at 9:15am. Volunteers of America of Florida is proud to serve the community in this housing development, but with the limited funds for nonprofits the building is in need of revamping. FNU has graciously agreed to help with some of the needed improvements which will help give this community a building they can be proud to live in.
This event will mark the first of many Days of Service between the two organizations. Coach and Athletic Director Scott Schmidt states, “Our Athletic Program isn’t just about winning games; it’s about teaching the idea of giving back. Participating in community service projects gives everyone a sense of purpose and teamwork similar to the camaraderie on an athletic team. We are looking forward to many more Days of Service projects with Volunteers of America of Florida to better our local communities.” FNU has flourished in recent years having gained its University status as well as established their first ever Athletic Department and Men’s basketball team this year.
”We are elated to have the FNU Athletic Department and University as a partner. They are well established in our communities and will help us to continue to assist those in-need in South Florida,” states Volunteers of America of Florida CEO and President Janet Stringfellow. “At Volunteers of America of Florida we pride ourselves on helping those that no one else will, but with funds dwindling, running needed programs such as ours gets harder every year, which is why as a nonprofit, we rely on passionate partners like FNU to carry out our mission of uplifting community members and aiding them in becoming independent. Thank you for everyone who made this day possible. We are looking forward to a long mutually beneficial relationship with FNU!”
