Raised Funds Will Support the Mission of the Dr. Jose Regueiro Scholarship Foundation
Miami, FL (PRWEB) May 15, 2014
To support the reach of the Dr. Jose Regueiro Scholarship Foundation, Florida National University (FNU) is hosting its inaugural Conquistador Classic Golf Fundraiser on Friday, September 5th, 2014. Merely a month before the Conquistador’s second season, the FNU Conquistadors invite local businesses, residents of South Florida, surrounding communities, as well as family and friends to join, contribute and celebrate the mission and initial success of FNU’s Athletic Department.
“I look forward to a fun day of conversation, networking and golf. We hope to raise money and awareness not only for the Dr. Jose Regueiro Scholarship Foundation and the FNU Athletics Department, but the University as a whole,” says Scott Schmidt, FNU’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director. “This fundraiser will help grant the student-athletes of FNU a first class experience that is built on the pre-existing culture Dr. Regueiro established.”
Just as Florida National University’s Athletic Department has created an opportunity to enhance the personal development of students through its inception, the department is extending its mission by donating all proceeds to the university’s affiliate non-profit organization. Honoring the late Dr. Jose Regueiro, the founder of FNU, the Dr. Jose Regueiro Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships, grants and assistance to individuals at an institution of higher learning who lack sufficient resources to enroll in and complete post-secondary education.
Understanding that the morals of athletics go hand in hand with a well-rounded education, FNU’s Athletic Department is committed to bolstering the resources of this non-profit to ensure active students are able to achieve their educational goals while providing assistance to overcome personal obstacles through appropriate counseling and guidance.
“The foundation is a great way to help students actualize their dreams of obtaining a post-secondary education and helps FNU deliver its promise of opening doors to the future,” says Jose Alonso, Social Media/Marketing Representative for Florida National University.
The fundraiser will feature meals, drinks, player’s gifts, auction, raffle, and a scramble golf tournament at the Don Shula’s Golf Resort, located at 6842 Main St in Hialeah, FL 33014. Specifications for the tournament include four (4) golfers per team, putting green and driving range open (free range balls), a 7:00 a.m. continental breakfast, scramble format, closest to the pin hole, beat the broadcaster, and longest drive. Prizes for the top teams and individuals will be presented during the Awards Reception at the conclusion of the tournament. Tax deductible donations of gift certificates, services, or products are eligible for use in the auction and raffle. Underwriting sponsorships are also available.
The mission of the Florida National University Athletic’s Department is to provide assistance within an athletic structure that promotes the development of a well-rounded education through structured sport and competition, to develop life skills of discipline, integrity, leadership, philanthropy and social responsibility, to elevate ethnic and cultural diversity within the athletic programs, to assure equitable opportunity for all staff and student-athletes, and to make the athletic program a durable source of pride for the student population, student-athletes, alumni, university, and community of FNU.
