Florida National University Now Offering Bachelor of Science in Psychology

Miami, Florida — February 3, 2016 — Florida National University (FNU) is proud to announce its new Bachelor of Science program in Psychology. Courses are currently being offered at our Hialeah and South campuses and can also be taken online.

Headed by Dr. Jose A. Perez, FNU’s Psychology Program Director, this program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions and advanced professional education.

“FNU’s Bachelor of Science in Psychology and its concentrations can help students enter a wide variety of fields,” Dr. Perez said.

Students will be exposed to the major domains of psychology and will acquire a solid base of knowledge, integrating and applying their education toward meeting career goals.

The program requires a minimum of 120 credits in order to graduate. Of the total credits required, 42 credits must be general education courses including communications, humanities, behavioral and natural science, mathematics, and computer science. In addition, 33 elective credits relevant to the core concentration must be completed. Certifications in the Addiction Specialist and Mental Health Technician concentrations are available.

Core concentrations include:

➢ Addiction Specialist:

FNU awards certificates for this concentration. An addiction specialist is a physician who has demonstrated by education, experience, and examination the knowledge and skills to provide prevention, screening, intervention, and treatment for substance use and addiction.

➢ Mental Health Technician:

Students pursuing this concentration can work as behavioral or research technicians, family counselors, or behavioral analysts.

➢ Forensic Psychology:

Professionals in this field are given skills in the practice of crime prevention, as well as the ability to gain insight into the psychology of why certain types of people commit crimes.

➢ Industrial and Organizational Psychology:

Industrial and organizational psychology is the scientific study of human behavior in the workplace. Learned skills include personnel recruitment, training evaluation and organizational culture.
