After hiring Scott Schmidt, the one-time personal assistant of Miami Heat sharpshooter, Mike Miller, as the Athletic Director for their new Athletic Department earlier this month, Florida National University (FNU) opens tryouts for their first ever men’s basketball team.

Tryouts will be open to any actively enrolled Florida National University student, college transfer students, and unsigned high school graduates. Students will be exhibiting their skills for the chance to make the team for FNU’s inaugural basketball season, which is scheduled to begin this coming fall.

“The athletic program is the first of its kind at the university and presents an incredible opportunity for students to become an important part of Florida National University’s history,” says Schmidt. “We invite all interested students to join us.”

When asked about the new athletic program initiated by FNU, Schmidt said, “With this program we are looking to create a tradition of excellence at Florida National University, something that will not only impact the potential student athletes at FNU, but the student body and community as a whole.”

Tryouts will be held on Saturday, June 29th between one and four p.m. at the Bucky Dent Gym, 2250 W. 60th Street in Hialeah, Florida.
