It may be easy to argue: if a student is planning to take a college course online, why bother considering the location?
Oftentimes, prospective students are looking for a college or university where they can take on-campus as well as online classes. In particular, non-traditional students find that online programs are the most convenient to take. Online courses offer a virtual classroom education where you can speak to your professors and classmates. They also provide all of the academic teachings that a traditional classroom environment offers—with the exception of campus activities and events.
Florida National University (FNU), located in South Florida, offers stellar online programs as well as campus activities and events that students can participate in if they wish.
FNU understands that there are a number of students whose goal is to earn a college degree. Yet, with life’s demands, they might not always have the luxury of time to get involved with extracurricular activities. That is why we have composed a list of academic programs that students can take 100% online. By pursuing a college degree online, you have the freedom and flexibility to create your own classroom time and study in the comfort of your own home.
Here are some of the attributes that we believe make FNU’s online programs the best choice for you:
What to Look for in an Online Program
Accreditation
In order to the get best education possible, be sure to verify that the school you are considering is an accredited institution. FNU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) awarding associates, bachelors, and master degrees. This is a seal of approval ensuring that the courses offered meet strict academic standards. Without an accreditation, students are taking a risk in their educational investment. Colleges and universities that aren’t accredited have the liberty of comprising a random curriculum of courses that don’t necessarily apply to the specific skillset and knowledge needed to enter the respected workforce.
It’s not enough to put any higher learning institution on your resume. With so many colleges and universities, employers have begun to take notice of which institutions are giving their students the best education possible. One way to identify this is to determine whether or not they are accredited. Employers take note of which schools are accredited. So what kind of institution you list under “Education” on your resume makes a significant difference.
Tuition Costs: Is if Affordable?
This is important. Education costs. As expensive as it can be, a good education is not out of reach. FNU’s undergraduate degree programs are $525 per credit hour while the graduate programs are $650 per credit hour. Federal financial aid is available to all students who qualify. We highly encourage students to apply for financial aid whether they need it or not. By submitting the FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application, the government can determine if you qualify. If you do, then you’ll be able to request financial aid to fund your education. If you don’t need it, there’s not obligation to take out a loan, but it is always best to have it available if you need it.
To learn more about federal student aid, visit the official Federal Student Aid website where you can fill out a Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) form.

The Scope of Academic Programs Offered
It’s not uncommon for students to change their academic major in the midst of their college career. So finding an accredited college or university that offers a wide array of online academic programs is a plus. If this is the case, students typically decide to switch majors within the first two years of their education. So oftentimes, the credits taken within that time are easily transferrable to another program. Each situation varies as a good guidance counselor determines these cases.
