HIALEAH, Fla. ( Oct. 5, 2023) – Florida National University’s men’s soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over the Florida College Falcons (3-5-0) Thursday. The Conquistadors (8-1-2) earned their first win of Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) play this season on the heels of earning their highest NAIA ranking in program history, coming in at No. 13 in the Coaches’ Poll.
Nine minutes into the contest, FNU got on the board with a score from Pedro Navarro set up by a cross-field pass from defender Ricardo Delwing. FNU fans in the grandstand cheered once again two minutes later after Bautista Dominguez made it a 2-0 affair on a pass from Patricio Amores. The Falcons had no answer for FNU’s attack and the Conquistadors sneaked in one more goal after two quick passes from Bautista Dominguez and Francisco Crimi allowed FNU’s captain Vinicius Mallmann to score in the 29th minute.
FNU had 21 shots and eight corner kicks while the Falcons were held to one shot and two corners the entire period.
When both teams returned for the second half, the Falcons made some serious adjustments on defense and kept FNU from scoring again for the majority of the half. Second-half substitute Leonardo Osorio capped off a 4-0 ball game for the home team thanks to assists from Juan Pugin and Sebastian Terra Dohir.
