Mu Zeta Volunteers at Becca’s Closet Event

Alpha Phi Sigma Mu Zeta
With many high schools in our community entering “Prom Season,” Florida National University and their Criminal Justice Honor Society, Alpha Phi Sigma – Mu Zeta Chapter, have joined forces with Becca’s Closet in order to make the dreams of thousands of young women a reality…. a chance to attend prom!

In the spring of her freshman year at Nova High School in Davie, Florida, Rebecca Kirtman started a dress drive. The drive provided prom dresses and accessories to high school girls who could not afford to purchase them. On August 20, 2003, Becca died in a tragic automobile accident. Today, her family and friends continue her legacy.

Becca was a cheerleader, an Honor Society member, and a beautiful young woman. During the spring of her sophomore year, Becca single-handedly collected and donated over 250 formal dresses and helped hundreds of girls across South Florida attend their High School proms in style. Now, our Honor Society members will follow her footsteps.

On April 19th, 2011, Florida National University and the Mu Zeta Chapter will become a part of the legacy. Starting at 10:00 a.m., Becca’s closet and Power 96 will be at Florida National University. A tent will be set up where dresses, shoes, and accessories will be collected until 7:00 p.m. that night.

Donating a dress? Guidelines are as follows: dresses from sizes 0-30 are accepted, must be less than 5 years old (current styles) and clean, costume jewelry, shoes and small dressy purses are accepted as well.

Come join us, and make a young woman’s dreams come true!
