AVE MARIA, Fla. (March 15, 2021) – The Florida National women’s tennis team (0-2) dropped a 7-0 decision to the (rv) Ave Maria Gyrenes (3-4), 7-0, on Monday.
The Gyrenes took a 1-0 lead winning the doubles portion of the match sweeping FNU, 3-0. The FNU duo of Umberto Particelli and Charles De La Laurencie fell to AMU’s Nicholas Hofmeister and Luca Cirenza, 6-1. The Conquistadors pair of Raphael Le Diabat and Rafael Castillo lost to AMU’s Carlos Thireau and Alejandro Viedma, 6-3. AMU’s Guilherme Bento and Felipe Amorim defeated FNU’s Bryan Cajamerca and Marius Pion, 6-0, to take the doubles point.
In singles action, AMU took all six matches to close out the contest, 7-0. Bento defeated Particelli, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Hofmeister topped Le Diabat, 7-5, 6-0. FNU’s De La Laurencie fell to Thireau, 7-6, 6-3, and Cajamerca suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Cirenza. Pion lost to Viedma, 6-2, 6-2, and Jan Rysanek dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Amorim.
The men’s team will host the St. Thomas Bobcats on Wednesday, March 24. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
