HIALEAH, Fla. ( Aug. 31, 2023) – Florida National University’s men’s soccer team bounced back from a disappointing loss to No. 11 St. Thomas August 26 with a dominant win over the Webber International University Warriors. FNU’s (3-1-0) potential on offense was on full display, as the Conquistadors recorded a 4-0 victory over the Warriors (1-1-0) at Milander Park.
First-half substitute and Miami, Fla., native Leonardo Osorio made a huge impact for the Conquistadors off the bench, sinking FNU’s first goal of the afternoon at the 31st-minute mark off assists from Francisco Crimi and Tomas Barrancos.
Six minutes later, another FNU sub brought the crowd at Milander Park to its feet, as Nicolas Martinez scored on a cross from Luis Martinez set up by Vinicius Mallmann. Commanding a comfortable 2-0 lead, FNU headed to halftime with 14 shots and two corner kicks. The Warriors went back to the drawing board, totaling just one shot and no corners awarded in the first half.
In the second half, Martinez earned a goal of his own in the 67th minute, tapping in FNU’s third score of the game off assists from Henrique Jordao and Nicolas Martinez. The icing on the Conquistadors’ celebration cake came with four minutes left on the clock, as Manuel Rodriguez knocked in a goal off a head-up feed from Marcos Bakale.
FNU ended the contest with four corners and 28 shots. The Warriors were unable to force any set pieces off corner kicks and managed just three shots against a stifling FNU defense. FNU goalkeeper Lucas Pereira Silva faced just one shot on goal over 90 minutes and recorded one save.
