Florida National University (FNU) is proud to announce the winner of the 2013 Poetry Contest, Ms. Oneida M. Justice. Her poem “Not My Daddy” was chosen from among 30 entries because of the emotionally-charged manner in which she writes about the very delicate subject of child abuse. The poem is dedicated to her daughters and sister.
Before you read Ms. Justice’s stirring poem, please take a few moments to learn about the poet.
Born in Honduras, Ms. Justice came to the United States when she was just 9 months old. She grew up in the City of Opa-locka, Florida, and she graduated from Miami Central Senior High Class of ’89.
Currently, Ms. Justice is enrolled in FNU’s Nursing program where she is working on her RN degree. Eventually, she wants to obtain an MSN and pursue a career in the field of diabetes research as a Business Development Manager. Oneida Justice lists her hobbies as traveling, writing, cooking and watching movies.
