James “Jimmy” Exley comes to Florida National University (FNU) by way of Miami Dade College (MDC). Coach Exley served as an assistant coach at MDC for 10 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge to FNU, but most importantly, a winning pedigree. During his stint at MDC, the Sharks were one of the most dominant women’s college volleyball teams in South Florida. They were NJCAA National Women’s Volleyball National Runner-Ups in 2007 and 2014. During his tenure at Miami Dade, Coach Exley was fortunate enough to coach 19 All-Americans.
Coach Exley’s coaching roots started in high school where he coached boys’ volleyball at Coral Park Senior High School from 2001-07. During that time, Coral Park was one of the most successful boys’ volleyball teams in the state of Florida winning 4 district championships in 2001-03 and 07, two regional championships in 2003 and 2007 and 2 FHSAA national 3rd place finishes in 2003 and 07. His overall record at Coral Park was 161-31. Coach Exley has already started to bring in players and is preparing to play one of the toughest college volleyball schedules in the state of Florida.
