DE LAND, Fla. (January 30, 2021) – The Florida National women’s tennis team (0-2) dropped a 7-0 decision to the Stetson Hatters (1-0) on Saturday afternoon from the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on the campus of Stetson University.
The Hatters took an early lead, winning doubles point. SU’s Danel Ashirova and Elodie Foster defeated the FNU pair of Vanessa Simone and Sofia Victoria Pera, 6-1, while the duo of Katie Kubicz and Tess Menten downed Florida National’s Michell Hurtado and Karyna Krykunenko, 6-0. The Hatter swept the double portion of the match with a 6-4 win by Olivia Talbert and Anna Dovgopolyi over Paulina Jankun and Emerald Cooke.
Stetson clinched the match after winning three-straight matches in singles play as Krykunenko fell to Vicky Geurinckx, 6-0, 6-0, Jankun lost to Laia Pasini, 6-1, 6-1, and Cooke lost to Foster, 6-1, 6-1. The Hatters added to their lead with wins in the final three singles matches (Ashirova defeated Victoria Pera, 6-2, 6-1, Anais Gabriel defeated Simone, 6-0, 6-2, and Menten defeated Hurtado, 6-0, 6-1).
The Conquistadors will return to action on Wednesday, February 11 when they travel to Tampa to take on Hillsborough CC. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
