TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Nov. 11, 2022) – Florida National returned to action with a loaded three-game schedule on day one of the Continental Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship. The Conquistadors went 2-1 in pool play, falling to Florida College 0-3, bouncing back for a much-needed win against Haskell University 3-1, and ending the night with another victory this time over Fisher College 3-1
Match Two Notables: W, 3-0 (25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23)
Set One
- FNU went on a 7-1 run to start the contest leaving Haskell with little room to climb back into the contest
- Four kills for Joanne Dania and three kills for Layla Cortez
- Gabriela Gonzalez had the set-clinching kill to earn FNU their first set win of the tournament
Set Two
- Haskell took an 8-5 lead on an attack error from Joanne Dania
- An attack error from Lina Valentino gave Haskell the set at 25-23
- With the score tied at 1-1, FNU went on a two-set run that put them at 1-1 on the day’s matches up until that point
Set Three
- A kill by Mikeya Sheppard tied the set at 13-13 before FNU went on to take the set point later on
- Haskell and Florida National kept it close until FNU gained the advantage with a 3-2 run to end the set
- Six kills for Joanne Dania led FNU in the set and helped them gain a 2-1 advantage
Set Four
- Four kills for Layla Cortez in the set helped secure the win
- Gabriela Gonzalez had the final kill to end the match on an assist from Elis Cordova-Millet
- Signaled the first win of the CAC tournament for FNU
