BOCA RATON, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2022) – Florida National’s women’s soccer team suffered a tough defeat against the Lynn University Knights Friday. The NCAA Division II team could not seem to miss, recording ten goals before the final whistle sounded in Boca Raton, Florida. The Conquistadors were ridding high coming to the match with three wins under their belt in as many contests, while Lynn has struggled this season sitting at 5-8-1 before collecting this dominant win. Florida National drops to 4-5-1 with this hard-fought defeat.
The first half saw the Knights go on an absolute tear on offense as six of their ten goals came in the first 45 minutes of play. Anniina Sankoh opened up scoring for the Knights on an assist from teammate Katja Orschmann eight minutes into the contest. Sankoh went on to score two more goals in the half to complete the hat trick with assists from Brigitta Pulins and Orschmann. The second half was more of the same for Lynn, as four more goals were scored for the home team this time from Addison Crone, Orschmann, Sankoh and Nicole Newton. The bright spot for the Conquistadors came in the 80th minute as a penalty kick by Anyeli Castillo helped FNU avoid the shutout.
Despite giving up ten goals, FNU goalkeeper Vanessa Osorio did record six saves in the match, as Lynn got off 26 shots. The Knights took four corner kicks to the Conquistadors’ one.
