MIAMI, Fla. (April 9, 2021) – The Florida National softball team (16-11) swept a Friday doubleheader at Trinity Baptist (3-20), winning the first game, 15-6, and Game Two, 10-2 (6 innings).
In Game One, the Conquistadors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of first and added six more runs in the top of the fourth before the Eagles got on the board with two runs in the bottom half of that inning.
After FNU added a run in the top of the fifth, TBC rattled off four unanswered runs cutting the Conquistador lead to 10-6 after six. A five-run seven, capped off grand slam by Megen Johnson. Johnson finished the game going 3-for-4 with six RBI in the contest. Also knocking in a number of runs was Gabriela De Oliveira, who drove in four with a 2-for-4 outing.
Natasha Trujillo (5-4) picked up the win, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six in six innings of action.
In Game Two, FNU scored in every inning except the fifth, to “run-rule” the Eagles, 10-2 (6 innings).
Scoring 10 runs on 10 hits, the Conquistadors were led De Oliveira, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Shortstop Nini Underwood scored two runs and drove in another for FNU, reaching base in all three plate appearances (2-for-2 with two walks).
Brandi Kirkpatrick (7-3) earned the victory, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just one hit.
FNU returns to action on Saturday, April 10, with a doubleheader at Edward Waters. Game One is set to begin at noon.
