Conquistadors Make Statement in Win over Johnson and Wales

Hialeah, FL – On Wednesday evening, the Conquistadors of Florida National University hosted the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University at Goodlet Park where the host team never gave a chance for the visitors during the match. The Conquistadors seized possession early and pressured the Wildcats defense, scoring 2 goals in the first half and the remaining 4 goals during the second period, for a final win of 6-0. The Conquistadors improve their overall record to 4-1 in the season.
Florida National University took the lead after Rodrigo Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) collected a loose ball just outside the 18 yard box to place in the corner of the Wildcat goalkeeper. Less than five minutes later, the Conquistadors would strike again as Gabriel Miranda (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored off of a header after a well taken corner kick by David Ochoa. Florida National University outshot JWU 9 to 2 as the half ended with the 2-0 lead in favor of the Conquistadors.
The second half began just as the first one: Florida National University seeking possession and pressuring JWU’s defense. With ten minutes in the half, Nicolas Micoli (Buenos Aires, Argentina), scored his first goal of the night. Just 5 minutes later, Micoli would strike again after collecting a pass from Tomas Crespi, bringing the Conquistadors lead to 4.
On the 67th minute of the game, Bruno Pietrobelli (Curitiba, Brazil) scored the goal of the night after he finished a cross from Leonardo Rodrigues with a one touch finish that found the upper corner of the JWU net. The last goal of the night came from the feet of Calvin Loudback (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), who dribbled past two defenders and expertly placed the ball past JWU goalkeeper, bringing the score to 6-0.
Florida National University outshot JWU 17 to 3 with 13 of those shots being on goal. GK Marco Sordi recorded 3 saves for the match, while the goalkeepers from the Wildcats combined a total of 7 saves. That’s the fourth win in row for the Conquistadors, who will take the field again on Saturday, when they are going to be hosted by local rival St. Thomas University. Kickoff is scheduled to 7:00PM.
