BOSTON, Mass. ( Jan. 14, 2023) – Florida National University’s women’s basketball team went 1-1 at the Continental Athletic Conference Alliance tournament at Fisher College. The Conquistadors (7-8) lost to the Washington Adventist University Shock (10-4) 84-45 after a solid win over Fisher the previous day. The loss drops FNU to 1-1 in CAC play this season.
The first half saw WAU shock the Conquistadors on the floor, commanding a 38-20 lead at the break. FNU had a tough shooting night going 32.7% from the floor for the contest. The Shock was able to play a solid game from the floor on 50% shooting (32-64) to completely overpower the Conquistadors.
Natalie Larranaga did a great job on offense for the second-straight night, leading all scorers with 23 points. The Guatemala City, Guatemala, native also managed to pick up eight rebounds and two steals, forcing her way into the painted area and crashing the boards whenever possible.
Despite a stellar night for Larranaga, FNU struggled to get production from other key players throughout the night. It was, however, the shock that had multiple players in double digits and forced 28 Conquistador turnovers. FNU did a solid job of staying competitive in the rebounding race, trailing their opponents by just nine rebounds (40-31) after the final whistle sounded in Massachusetts.
FNU’s first CAC Player of the Week Larranaga once again lead the way as FNU dips below .500 to end their time in Boston.
