Conquistadors Rout Eagles, 6-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (October 29, 2020) – In the team’s final game of the Fall, the Florida National men’s soccer team (2-1-0) defeated the Trinity Baptist Eagles (3-9-0), 6-1, in Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday.

FNU was led by freshman Blas Alfredo Barrancos, who recorded the first hat trick of his collegiate career. The native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, scored two goals in the first 28 minutes of action and added a third in the 54th minute. Barrancos leads the team in scoring with five goals (10 points). Joining Barrancos in scoring was sophomore Francisco Crimi, who netted a pair of goals versus the Eagles. Junior Constantino Higa, who missed over a year due to injury, recorded one goal and added an assist in his first game back.

Barrancos got FNU on the board with goals in the 18th and 28th minutes. Senior Gregorio Morganti assisted Barrancos on his first goal while Santiago Leaniz was credited with an assist on goal number two.

Crimi extended the lead in the 31st minute with his first goal of the season. The score gave the Conquistadors a 3-0 edge heading into halftime. Through 45 minutes of action, FNU outshot TBC, 12-0.

Barrancos completed the hat trick with a goal in 55th minute to give the Conquistadors a 4-0 lead. Higa converted a penalty kick attempt in the 66th minute for FNU’s fifth goal of the game. The native of Buenos Aires later found Crimi for his second goal of the game, earning Higa an assist on the afternoon and extending the lead to 6-0 in the 74th minute.

The Eagles got on the board in the 82nd minute, but that was all that the Conquistador defense was allowed.

Goalkeeper Victor Ruiz Lasso (2-0-0) earned the victory seeing just 45 minutes of action. Juan Manuel Fermoselle replaced Lasso in net to start the second half, making one save.

The Conquistadors shut down the Eagles’ attack, outshooting TBC, 29-4. FNU peppered goalkeeper Trey Nieves (13 saves) with 19 shots on goal.

The win closes out the Fall Season for the Conquistadors. FNU looks to return to action this Spring with a scheduled game at Keiser on February 10, 2021.
