MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. ( Sept. 5, 2023) – Florida National University’s women’s soccer team fell short of a long-awaited win over the St. Thomas University Bobcats Tuesday. The Conquistadors’ 1-0 loss improved the Bobcats’ overall record to 8-0 against FNU, dating back to 2017.
In the early goings, Florida National went toe to toe with a St. Thomas team that came into Tuesday afternoon’s match-up fresh off a huge 3-2 upset victory over No. 9 Embry-Riddle Arizona. The Bobcats had multiple opportunities to put one in the back of the net, recording 13 shots in the first half alone.
Freshman goalkeeper Nahomie Ambroise put up six saves in the first half of her Conquistador debut, forcing the Bobcats to go into the break with a 0-0 draw. FNU’s lone shot of the half was credited to Johanna Andersson on an attempt that sailed wide.
The second period saw the Bobcats finally breakthrough with 52:29 on the clock with a goal from Megan Farrell. FNU looked to tie up the game once again, even getting forward and speedster Mickaela Calisto in prime position to attack in the open field, but to no avail. The Bobcats ushered in their third win of 2023, tallying two corners and 21 shots with nine of those being on goal. FNU racked up two shots and Ambroise had eight saves.
