Since 1982, Florida National University (FNU) has been providing students with collegiate opportunities that have opened doors to a more promising future. Located in the heart of Hialeah, Florida, FNU has always had the heart to educate multicultural communities. That became quite obvious within the first year of opening our doors when we had to build a second campus in Miami to accommodate all of the enrollees. Since then, our student enrollment numbers have continued to grow.
FNU Offering Different Opportunities to Earn a College Degree
Along the way, we’ve incorporated an athletic department offering students the opportunity to play a college sport while earning an education. Students have the option to try out for: Men’s Basketball, Soccer, or Baseball. There’s also a Women’s Volleyball and Soccer team to participate in. It’s no doubt that sports can certainly increase admissions, especially when our basketball team is the top United States Collegiate Athletic Association D1 Program in the country!
Extending Our Academic Programs to The Bahamas
As a regionally accredited university in the South Florida area, we’re not only invested in caring for our community, but also the surrounding regions, including the Bahamas.
FNU has recently received a series of inquiries about Bahamian residents expressing interest to pursue a degree from an accredited university in The United States. While we have and continue to welcome international students onto our campus to take courses, we are also happy to extend online programs to the neighboring islands of the Bahamas.
FNU is always interested in expanding its initiative to offer higher educational services. We’re proud to say that we’re able to do this with the Commonwealth of The Bahamas community. Any resident from the Bahamas may be eligible to earn a college degree from Florida National University.
Learning More About FNU
FNU is approved by the National Accreditation & Equivalency Council of the Bahamas (NAECOB) to offer online and virtual programs in the Bahamas. FNU is also regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, bachelor, and master degree programs. Additionally, we’re licensed by the Commission for Independent Education by the Florida Department of Education, approved for Veterans Training by the State of Florida, Department of Veterans Affairs and have a string of academic healthcare licenses to teach collegiate degree programs in said field.
Interest in Going to a United States University
For Bahamian residents who are interested in earning a college degree in The United States, there is usually a long list of things you need to do, such as complete the VISA application, provide the right type of legal documentation, prepare for an interview, and if you have family, provide the necessary documentation for them as well.
Now, FNU has made it easier for a Bahamian resident on an island to earn a college degree 100% online! Here are the following online degree programs that can be earned online:
-
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
To enroll in this online degree program, you will need to have already obtained your Registered Nursing license that’s clear and active. In many cases, students who qualify for this bachelor’s degree program may already have their associate’s degree or nursing diploma. At any rate, those who have completed an Associate of Science in Nursing (ADN) degree program will be able to transfer up to 32 credits towards their BSN. Those who have not will need to complete all of the general education courses as well as the 35 credit hours of upper level courses.
-
Master’s in Science in Nursing (MSN)
The MSN degree program is designed specifically for nurses and students who have just completed their BSN degree program to polish their skills and talents as a healthcare professional. Here, you will learn a broad range of academic experiences that will provide you with the option to choosing a higher-level healthcare career.
For Bahamian residents looking to earn an MSN degree completely online, you will have the option to concentrate in the subject area of a Nurse Educator or in Nurse Leadership and Management. To study in the area of a Family Nurse practitioner will require you to participate in a virtual classroom setting as this concentration is designed as a hybrid of online and traditional courses.
-
Master’s in Health Services Administration (MHSA)
This degree program is for people who are more interested in getting involved with hospital administrative regulations, insurance policies, and management of healthcare. If you aspire to work alongside executives and possibly become one within the healthcare industry, then this is the online degree program for you! The MHSA program is a 36-hour collegiate program that can be completed in approximately 24 months on a full-time basis. With this degree, you will be more marketable as professional to work in the public or private sector.
-
Master’s of Business Administration (MBA)
FNU’s MBA degree program is another online program that’s designed for new undergrads and working professionals. However, the MBA program is open to any kind of undergrad study as long as it’s from a regionally accredited university. In addition to the general 24-credit requirement courses, online students will have the option to choose from the following concentrations:
- General Management
- Marketing

Each of these concentrations totals 9 credit hours that’s equivalent to 3 courses.
