Jose Garcia enters his tenth year with Florida National University’s women’s volleyball program and his seventh season as Associate Head Coach. Since arriving at FNU in 2015, Garcia has excelled in his role alongside head coach Carlos Huaroto-Luque and facilitated multiple successful seasons of Conquistador volleyball.
Garcia helped the team to the program’s first NAIA National Tournament selection in 2021, an NAIA Continental Athletic Conference Championship the same year, two USCAA National Championships (2018, 2019) and two USCAA Final Four finishes.
In 2022, Garcia was an instrumental part of FNU’s late-season push that culminated in a hard-fought loss at the Continental Athletic Conference Championship game to Florida College. FNU ended the year with seven wins over its last 10 games despite starting the season 2-8. FNU volleyball had three All-Tournament selections from the CAC (Paola Brandsma, Joanne Dania, Lina Valentino) four All-Conference Team nods (Dania, Layla Cortez, Gabriela Gonzalez, Lina Valentino) and three USCAA All-Americans (Dania, Gonzalez, Valentino). FNU volleyball also garnered four USCAA All-Academic honorees (Elis Cordova Millet, Liva, Sofia Moreno Bendala, Valentino) and three NAIA Scholar-Athletes (Cordova Millet, Liva, Valentino).
Garcia was born in Granada, Nicaragua. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Florida International University in 2018 and teaches mathematics at his alma mater, Miami Senior High School. During the summer, he works for Gold Medal Squared Volleyball at different camps all over the country.
