MIAMI SHORES, Fla. ( Nov. 13, 2023) – Florida National University’s men’s basketball team was unable to execute the upset over NCAA DII’s Barry University Buccaneers Monday night. The Bucs (2-1) handed FNU (0-4) its fourth loss of the 2023-24 season 94-70 in Miami Shores, Fla. The Conquistadors did a great job of holding Barry’s fastbreak points to just 20, but abysmal three-point shooting and 17 turnovers gave the Bucs too much of an advantage for the Conquistadors to recover.

In the first half, three early points from FNU’s Ray Daniel Parrish cut the Bucs lead to 8-5. From that point on, the Bucs were effective from the field with three players ending the first half in double digits. Barry went 6-14 from long distance, which helped lessen the blow of 21 first-half turnovers. Parrish led all FNU players with nine points and Cameron Johnson posted five points and one rebound.

In the second, FNU’s perimeter defense made things a little harder for the Bucs on the outside. Barry shot 25% from behind the three-point line but had a major contribution from their bench, with Barry’s reserves putting up 18 points. Parrish knocked down 3-5 shots attempted and was the only Conquistador with double-figure points in the second. Johnson did his part on the boards, nabbing five rebounds, but the Bucs’ early lead in the first was enough to keep real daylight between them and FNU.

Parrish flirted with a double-double, recording 19 points and nine rebounds to lead all FNU scorers. Johnson did his part with 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

This victory marks Barry’s fourth win in as many contests versus the Conquistadors going back to 2015. The last time these two teams collided, Barry claimed a 91-61 win over the Conquistadors in Miami Shores, Fla., on Nov. 29, 2022.
