MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2023) – Florida National University’s women’s soccer team settled for a less-than-ideal result in its lone exhibition match of the 2023 season. The Barry University Buccaneers (3-2-2) handed FNU (0-4-2) a 4-0 loss at Buccaneer Soccer Field on Oct. 2. Barry managed to shut down the Conquistador offense, holding FNU to no shots through 90 minutes.
The first half was a scoreless affair for both teams, as FNU goalie Nahomie Ambroise had seven saves in the first half. It was a busy first period for the Haitian goalkeeper as the Bucs put up 15 shots and attempted seven corners before both teams headed off the field for the halftime break.
Despite offensive struggles, FNU kept Barry off the board until three minutes into the second half. The Bucs’ Madison Paster got one past Ambroise on an assist from Julene Urkidi towards the middle of the 18-yard box. Barry began to pour it on with another goal at the 49th-minute mark from Linea Jorgensen thanks to another assist from Urkidi.
Urkidi’s vision proved invaluable for the Bucs as Tessa Evans made it a 3-0 game and awarded Urkidi her third assist of the match. Mia Applegate closed out the game with a 35-yard long-range goal in the 76th minute. FNU had just three corners in the contest and six fouls.
