HIALEAH, Fla. (Sept. 13, 2023) – A long-awaited offensive explosion pushed Florida National University’s men’s soccer team to No. 17 in the NAIA’s Weekly Top-25 Coaches’ Poll. Standing at 6-1-0, the Conquistadors move up two spots after coming in at No. 19 in last week’s poll.
The Conquistadors displayed dominance on the offensive side of the ball as of late, scoring nine goals over their last two contests. The Brewton-Parker Barons allowed five Conquistador goals in its shutout loss, and the Point University Skyhawks were just as unlucky, conceding four goals in a 4-1 defeat.
The breakout star for FNU over this high-scoring stretch was Geronimo Luna Grebe, as the Argentinian scored in each FNU victory.
Florida National’s sole loss thus far in the 2023 season was against the No. 6 St. Thomas University Bobcats on August 26, 3-2. Notably, fellow Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) member Georgia Gwinnett College moved up to No. 11 with both teams scheduled to meet Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. to close out the CAC Classic in Lawrenceville, Ga.
