Lawrenceville, Ga. (May 06, 2023) – Florida National University’s softball team had their NAIA postseason hopes shattered following its second loss in the Continental Athletic Conference Championship at Georgia Gwinnett College. The Conquistadors fell 5-1 to Crowley’s Ridge College the previous day and failed to get a victory in a must-win 2:30 p.m. contest versus the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks.

The Sand Sharks dominated the contest early, scoring four runs and recording four hits at the top of the second frame. A single from Taelor Chang advanced Chloe Turner and Mackenzie Freeman to open up a 2-0 lead for USCB. A costly fielding error from first baseman Jordan Bohn bought just enough time for Chang and Amber Locasto to add on two more scores before retiring the side.

Senior shortstop Megen Johnson brought some necessary offensive relief at the bottom of the third with a double to left field that scored Sabrina Castelli to make it a 4-1 ball game. Despite Johnson’s heroics, a three-RBI single courtesy of USCB’s Daryn Miller was just enough to keep the conquistadors at bay.

FNU recorded four hits and an error while the Sand Sharks racked up 13 hits with no errors on the board.
