Hialeah, Florida – March 22, 2013 – Florida National University Announces Scholarships For Every Miami-Dade County Public High Schools
The South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SFLHCC) held its Hispanic Leadership Awards luncheon at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa Champions Pavilion on Friday, March 22, 2013. A group of distinct and well deserving professionals were honored and received Top Hispanic Leaders of South Florida awards. Following the awards presentation, Florida National University (FNU) announced a special scholarship program. Florida National University was pleased to share that through the SFLHCC, FNU will award a scholarship to each and every Miami-Dade County Public High School. This exemplifies FNU’s commitment to continue serving, enriching, and educating our community.
The SFLHCC ~ FNU scholarship program will provide all Miami-Dade County high schools an opportunity to award one scholarship to a deserving graduate. To qualify, applicants must complete the required Scholarship Request form. All entries must be submitted to the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce by June 5, 2013.
President and CEO of the SFLHCC, Mrs. Liliam M. Lopez stated that “the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is extremely proud to partner with Florida National University, an outstanding institution of higher education with deep roots in the South Florida community. Our community is blessed to have FNU at the forefront helping our financially disadvantaged students obtain a degree.”
The keynote speaker was Mr. Alberto M. Carvalho, Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the nation’s fourth largest school system that serves a culturally diverse student body. Carvalho delivered an informative and passionate message to a group of 400 participants who attended this luncheon. He summarized the academic and fiscal accomplishments for the last five years.
“FNU is honored and excited to offer the opportunity to attend our University to Miami-Dade County Public Schools graduates,” said Mrs. Maria Cristina Regueiro, FNU President. “This scholarship program preserves the legacy of the late Dr. Jose Regueiro to educate those with the highest needs in our community.”
