HIALEAH, Fla. ( Dec. 10, 2022) For the fifth time this season, the Florida National University Lady Conquistadors (3-5) fell short of a win, this time to the well-disciplined Keiser University Seahawks (7-4) team. FNU’s 77-54 loss came fresh off the Conquistadors’ blow out loss in an exhibition match against Florida Atlantic University and a 77-54 win over Trinity Baptist College at Bucky Dent Park.

This marks the first loss on home court for FNU in the 2022-23 season.

In the first frame, a full effort on offense from the Seahawks catapulted them to a 19-8 lead over the Conquistadors. Kaylee Llanos had a solid four points for FNU while Louise Pilley and Tyra Kirlew scored two points a piece to even out the totality of FNU’s offense in the quarter.

FNU shot 14.3% (1-7) from the three-point line for the period but managed to force six turnovers.

In the second FNU’s shooting slump kicked into full gear despite connecting on two three pointers. Despite shooting in the low thirties for the period, the Seahawks were not exactly shooting the light out of Bucky dent park going a modest 37.5% (6-16) going into the break.

The second half saw a solid explosion for FNU’s leading scorer Natalie Larranaga, as she dropped seven points, nabbed one steal and snatched up three rebounds. The Seahawks were able to weather this very nicely outscoring FNU 23-15.

In the final frame, FNU went a game-high 47.4% from the field and scored a team-high 19 points before ultimately falling to Keiser.

Larranaga recorded a team-high 13 points to go along with six rebounds one steal and two assists. Llanos and Aaliyah Abdala both had nine points for the contest and Janelisse Marty Marrero provided six points off the bench.
