TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2022) – Florida National has found a late-season spark as they have played their way into a three-game win streak after defeating Iowa Wesleyan Saturday. The Conquistadors picked up where they left off on day one of the CAC Classic at Florida College, routing the Tigers 3-0. FNU improves to 6-11 while the Tigers’ record falls to 5-22. This is the largest win streak for the Conquistadors this season and this weekend’s tournament doubled the Conquistadors’ total wins for the season thus far.
Set One FNU Notables (25-19)
- Florida National showed no signs of fatigue, despite playing a late four-set game the night before. The Conquistadors jumped to an 18-16 lead as the Tigers looked to get themselves ahead
- A kill by Tigers’ Madison Saia made it a one-point Conquistador lead with the set sitting at 19-18
- Three back-to-back kills for Joanne Dania ended the set 25-19 and awarded FNU the first point of the match
Set Two FNU Notables (26-24)
- The second set of the match was highly-contested as the Tigers tried to get back in the match, pushing the set to 26-24
- Layla Cortez connected on three kills in the set
- An attack error from Iowa Wesleyan’s Madison Saia ended the set in favor of the Conquistadors
Set Three FNU Notables (25-17)
- The Conquistadors went to work to put this game away as soon as they could, jumping to an 11-7 lead midway through the third
- Two kills for Joanne Dania and a solo block in the set
- An attack error from IWU’s Bethany Williams gave FNU the 3-0 win

- Another double-digit kill match for Joanne Dania as she collected 15 through three sets
- Five kills and 19 digs for Layla Cortez
- Elis Cordova-Millet had eighteen assists and five digs
