TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Oct. 21, 2022) – Conquistador volleyball has struck gold on the first day of the CAC Volleyball Classic at Florida College. After earning a gritty 3-2 win over Haskell, FNU showed great fight and effort to knock out the Crowley’s Ridge Pioneers. With a dominant 3-1 win over Crowley’s Ridge College, FNU improves to 5-11 on the season, while the Pioneers now sit at 4-20. This two-game win streak matches the longest winning streak of the year so far for the Conquistadors.
Set One FNU Notables (22-25)
- FNU got out to a hot start before the Pioneers got back in the contest
- The Conquistadors fell behind on some costly attack errors and the Pioneers jumped ahead 24-22
- Despite a slow start, FNU used the momentum from the end of the first set to propel them forward the rest of the contest
Set Two FNU Notables (25-14)
- FNU dominated with another signature second set never really letting their opponent get anything going
- The Pioneers were shut down offensively and struggled to cut FNU’s lead
- The Conquistadors commanded a 23-8 lead before closing the set
Set Three FNU Notables (25-20)
- The Conquistadors fell behind midway through the set as the Pioneers had a comfortable 14-7 advantage
- FNU battled their way back into the match tying things up at 16 a-piece before a Crowley’s Ridge timeout
- Joanne Dania hammered in a powerful kill to end the set and give FNU a 2-1 Advantage in the match
Set Four FNU Notables (25-20)
- FNU went to work early, jumping to an 8-3 lead to start the fourth set
- The Conquistadors held a comfortable 18-10 lead before a few balls that sailed out of play landed the Pioneers trailing by just five points
- An assist from Ivette Sandoval set up a perfect match-clinching kill from Laya Cortez
