KISSIMMEE, Fla. ( Oct. 5, 2022) – The newly minted No.14 Florida National men’s soccer team pulled out another impressive draw this season, this time against a courageous Johnson University team in Kissimmee, Florida. The Suns were on the hunt for their first win of the year and put on a formidable performance on the offensive side of the pitch. FNU’s 3-3 tie keeps them undefeated on the year as they look to use this momentum as the season continues. FNU now stands at 7-0-2 on the year while the Suns improved to 0-4-2.
Florida National got off to another hot start, jumping to a 2-0 lead early in the first half thanks to goals from Pedro Navarro and Ricardo Delwing. The Suns answered back with a goal of their own keeping the Conquistadors within reach with 12 minutes remaining in the half. With the score now standing at 2-1, FNU’s Matias Leaniz nailed one final goal for FNU in the half to give his team a comfortable two-score lead.
Unfortunately for the Conquistadors, this would be the final goal for them in the contest, as JU strung together two goals in the second half to even the contest and had multiple opportunities to take the lead that went just past the mark.FNU goalkeeper Juan Manuel Fermoselle had a critical save with twenty-munites left as a Johnson attacker launched a potential game-equalizing shot towards the net that was confidently swatted away by the freshman.
The second half saw FNU’s defense struggle to handle the Suns’ attackers and the pressure their players were exerting on both sides of the ball.
Up Next: FNU takes on RV Southeastern University on October 12 at 7 p.m. on the road before returning to Milander Park to host conference rival Florida College on October 15.
