AVE MARIA, Fla. (March 15, 2021) – The Florida National women’s tennis team (0-3) lost to the No. 20-ranked Ave Maria Gyrenes (5-3), 7-0, on Monday.
The Gyrenes took a 1-0 lead winning the doubles portion of the match, 2-1. The FNU duo of Vanessa Simone and Pirada Suwanruk fell to AMU’s Lara Teodoro and Julia Candiotto, 6-1. The Conquistadors rallied with a 6-2 victory by Daniela Millan and Michell Hurtado over Gabrielle Benn and Kely Oliveira. AMU’s Katie Fuller and Aitheielle Kelkboom defeated FNU’s Julia Silva Ramos and Lizabeth Ardanal, 6-0, to take the doubles point.
In singles action, AMU took all six matches to close out the contest, 7-0. Teodoro defeated Suwanruk, 7-5, 7-2, while Candiotto topped Simone, 6-3, 6-2. FNU’s Millan fell to Benn, 6-0, 6-1, and Hurtado suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Kelkboom. Silva Ramos lost to Oliveira, 6-0, 6-0, and Ardanal dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Fuller.
The women’s team will host LSU Alexandria on Saturday, March 20. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
