WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 13, 2021) – The Florida National softball team (11-10) swept a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Keiser (8-8), defeating the Seahawks in Game One, 8-0 (6 inn.), and shutting out KU in the second game, 3-0.
In Game One, the Conquistadors used 12 hits, including six extra-base knocks to score eight runs on the Seahawks. Scoring two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth, and two more in the sixth, FNU handed KU the mercy-rule loss.
Gabryella Hay drove in two runs on four hits, including a solo shot in the fourth to get the scoring started for FNU. Madison Bradshaw recorded three RBI in the contest, going 2-for-3 from the dish with a pair of doubles.
Brandi Kirkpatrick drove in two hitting 2-for-3 in the game. The right-handed hurler (5-2) also pitched a gem, allowing no runs while scattering four hits in the six innings of action for her fifth win of the season.
Game Two turned into a bit of a “pitcher’s duel” as both teams were held to just four hits in a 3-0 victory for the Conquistadors.
Nini Underwood led FNU with four hits and was responsible for one of the team’s three RBI.
The Conquistadors broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth with an RBI by Bradshaw. FNU added a run in the top of the sixth as Natasha Trujillo drew a walk with the bases loaded. Underwood added an insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to left.
Trujillo (2-4) picked up her second with of the season, allowing no run on four hits while striking out two in the complete-game shutout.
The Conquistadors will return to action on Wednesday, March 24, when they host the Webber International Warriors in a doubleheader. First pitch for Game One is set for 1:00 p.m.
