MIAMI, Fla. (November 22, 2020) – Senior Kenneth Santos and junior Jeffery Hernandez combine for 51 points in a 103-90 loss to the No. 9-ranked Arizona Christian Firestorm (4-0) on Sunday evening.
The Conquistadors (2-4) were unable to overcome a 22-point, first-half deficit despite outplaying the nationally-ranked Firestorm in the final 20 minutes. FNU used solid shooting from the floor in the second half (51.4 percent) to pull within nine but was able to come all the way back for the 13-point loss.
Santos scored a team-high 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range. The product of San German, Puerto Rico, was also a perfect 6-fo-6 from the free-throw line. Hernandez added 24 points on 10-of-22 shooting, including three treys for his fourth-straight 20-point outing.
Junior Pride George contributed 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting while going 4-of-6 from the charity stripe. Hirotaka Ohashi dished out a team-best nine assists to go along with nine points and four rebounds. Leading the Conquistadors in rebounding were senior Jose Benitez (5) and junior Josh Tawhiao (5).
FNU ended the night shooting 45.8 percent from the floor (33-of-72) and was 11-of-30 from 3-point range (36.7 percent). ACU converted 50.6 percent of its changes from the field (39-of-770 and was 12-of-31 from beyond the arc (38.7 percent). The Firestorm outrebounded the Conquistadors 51-30 and held a 16-7 edge on the offensive glass.
The two team will square off again on Monday, November 23. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
