For most of us, our teenage years are filled with unforgettable moments. Whether it was receiving college acceptance letters or picking a suit or dress for our very anticipated prom, just like we see in the movies. The same, however, cannot be said for 18-year-old Daniel Quesada who is currently in the fight for his life. Diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at a very young age, Daniel has done all he can to live as normal a life as possible. Whether that be attending class, hanging out with friends or being a part of a cross country team.
But due to this genetic disease, that normalcy that so many of us take for granted, has taken a back seat, as Daniel is currently in need of a double lung transplant. The transplant could and would give Daniel a second chance at life. But the cost for such a procedure is a rather large undertaking. Pre and post-transplant expenses range to upwards of $1.4 million dollars. Though Daniel’s insurance should cover the large sum of the cost. The out of pocket expense runs upwards of $250,000.
At Florida National University, we consider every student and faculty member family. Which is why when one of our family members, Assistant Dean Bernardo Navarro, brought to our attention Daniel’s story; We knew we had to do all we could to help.
Which is why we are asking you to please find it in your heart to donate towards Daniel’s surgery. Any donation, small or large, would make a huge difference in the life of Daniel and his family.
