Three times a year, Florida National University (FNU), the FNU Powerhouse and the Dr. Jose Regueiro Foundation host social events that attempt to educate our youth and eliminate globally detrimental issues. On Thursday, January 25th, the Third Annual Human Trafficking Walk took over FNU’s Hialeah Campus. In this first event of 2018, hundreds of Miami-Dade County Public School students were treated to guest speakers, interactive games, music, food and most importantly: lessons that could save lives. People from all walks of life joined the cause; from politicians, government officials and police chiefs to human trafficking victims, musicians and poets. The grand success of the event would not have been possible without the help of some great sponsors, both from local businesses and national chains. Whether it was with food, educational resources or monetary donations, FNU could not be more grateful for the outpouring of support received. As per usual, DJ Zaga of iHeartRadio had the party jumping from beginning to end!
Once it was time to walk, the streets surrounding FNU were flooded with messages of hope and optimism. Signs read: “No one is for sale,” “Be the Voice against Human Trafficking” and “Hear my Plee, Set us Free!” Led by a brigade of Police officials, the streets of Hialeah were buzzing with enthusiasm. The walk accomplished the mission it set out: bringing a motivated community together around one common goal: putting an end to Human Trafficking for good.
