HIALEAH, FL – In the State of Florida, in order to practice as a Radiologist Technologist, professionals have the choice of earning the licensure provided by the Florida Health Department or the certifications granted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT). Currently, hospitals and diagnostic centers, in order to ensure that positions as Radiologist Technologists are occupied by proficient professionals, are requesting the certifications granted by the ARRT after successfully completing an exam provided by the ARRT.
In order to be eligible for the ARRT certification exam, the individual must graduate from a program offered at an institution that is accredited by any organization recognized by the ARRT. In order to have this requirement, Florida National University has created a pathway, the Radiologic Technology Advanced Placement Program that will allow individuals that fall under the following criteria to sit for the exam:
- Completed a Radiologic Technology program at an institution that is recognized by the ARRT
- Completed a Radiologic Technology program at an institution recognized by the ARRT but are no longer eligible for the exam due to unsuccessful examination attempts or expiration of their eligibility time period
- Are already licensed but with a limited scope license (e.g. military trained radiographers)
- Are foreign educated in Radiology Science
- Hold the Florida state license or need to reinstate the ARRT certification.
FNU has prepared an eight months program where all radiology concepts are reviewed giving the candidates the most updated information related to the field. Candidates are evaluated and assessed individually to decide their suitability for the program. This program is offered in a hybrid modality; it is taught by highly qualified instructors using a combination of Distance Learning education and on campus sessions on a weekly basis. The students are constantly tested to make sure that they are achieving the educational and practical objectives of this program.
The completion requirements for this program are: a) successfully completing each module that is part of this program, b) complete 360 hours of clinical experience hours in one of our affiliated clinical sites and, c) pass the exit exam. After completing this program, graduates become eligible for the ARRT certification exam.
