These days, you can become a college student in just one click of a button. As convenient as this might be, the academic team at Florida National University (FNU) strongly advises you to use extreme caution when making decisions about your education because it has a direct impact on your future. Just like anything offered on the Internet, you want to make sure that the college you plan to attend is a good one.
Making Good Decisions
One way to ensure that you’re making a wise investment in your education is by seeking out an accredited higher learning institution first. From there, you can determine if any of the business programs are offered online. Since you’ve already determined that you want to attend a college in Florida, this will definitely help make the decision process a little easier. Having too many options can also be a time-consuming process that can make the decision even more difficult. So make the choice even easier and be as specific as you can when looking for the right college.
Types of Accreditation
There are 2 different kinds of general accreditation that one should look out for, institutional and programmatic. Institutional accreditation applies to the university as a whole, assuring that all of its moving parts (programs, curriculum, faculty etc.) meet the standard and criteria the accreditation agency sees fit. However, that does not necessarily assure that all programs within the University operate at the same standard. Programmatic accreditation refers to a specific program, department or school being given the honor.
Institutional accreditations come in two different forms: Regional or National. Regionally accredited universities are reviewed by agencies that represent their corresponding region, while national accreditation can occur anywhere in the country. However, being regionally accredited is a more rigorous process and holds greater prestige than national. Regional accreditation is also required in order to provide federal financial aid.
FNU’s Credentials
FNU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate and master degrees. To learn more about the SACSCOC and what goes into its review process, visit its official website here.
FNU is also a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and is seeking accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.
Examining Your Online Options for Business Degrees
Once you’ve selected a university, the next step is examining what kind of business courses they have to offer online. FNU has three online degree programs: the Associate’s, Bachelor’s, and Master’s.
Associate of Arts in Business Administration (AA)
The AA in Business Administration is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a business degree while balancing their academic transcript with liberal courses. Students will learn all of the general education courses along with a requirement to fulfill electives in natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. So while students will learn the basic fundamentals about the business industry, they’ll also have some liberal courses that will make them a viable candidate for almost any administrative job.
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BS)
FNU’s BS in Business Administration builds on the AA program but gives students the option to select from a variety of concentrations. The core courses are much more intense with two categories of lower and upper level tiers that go further in depth about the fundamentals of the business administration industry. Between the two tiers, students will immerse themselves in the following courses:
- Principles in Accounting
- Corporate Finance
- Managerial Accounting
- Operations Management
- Business Law
- Human Resource Management
- Principles of Microeconomics
